Why it is useful
Supabase gives developers a full backend (database, auth, file storage, edge functions) built on standard Postgres instead of Firebase's proprietary NoSQL store, which avoids vendor lock-in and lets teams query data with normal SQL. It's self-hostable via Docker or usable as a managed cloud service with a generous free tier.
