Every Noise at Once
everynoise.com
Interactive scatter-plot map of thousands of music genres with playable samples.
Every Noise at Once is a scatter-plot map of music genres by Glenn McDonald. Genres are placed according to how they sound, with more organic and acoustic styles toward the bottom and more electric and mechanical ones toward the top, and clicking a genre plays a sample.
It is a great way to explore music far outside your usual taste. The page includes notes on the current state of the site, so read them to see how up to date the data is. It was created by Glenn McDonald, who has also written a book about how streaming changes music.
Why it is useful
Algorithmically organizes every genre Spotify tracks by sonic similarity — click any genre to hear a sample. Invaluable for discovering niche artists and understanding how music styles relate to each other.
